Hello! I’m so glad you stopped by!
I’m Shannon! I’m a wife, boy mom, and teacher of our littlest learners. I love 90s music, cheesy Hallmark movies, coffee, and good mascara. This is my 19th year teaching and I have taught every grade PK-2 in the Gen Ed world. I have also spent the 14 years as an integrated preschool teacher, serving as both the Gen Ed Teacher and the Intervention Specialist for my students. Currently I am a kindergarten teacher and love getting to spend my days with my amazing students. I’m passionate about giving students, teachers, and parents the tools they need to use self-regulation skills, reduce power struggles, and create inclusive environments for ALL children. My Mission
The Purposeful Classroom was created as a place to share my personal thoughts on all things early childhood education by sharing experiences, raising awareness, collaborating, educating, informing, and advocating so that ALL children are being taught using research based, developmentally appropriate activities, projects, lessons, and open-ended materials. My personal philosophy is that a child’s potential should never have a limit placed on it.
I created this to be a place that raises awareness that we need to start shifting our thinking to adapting our environments to accommodate the students we currently have in order to meet their needs where they are at, rather than forcing our students to adapt to our environments and meet our needs as teachers. It is a place that fosters a students first, service minded mentality. What we do as professionals should never be about us. It always should be about serving our students and their families first to help them reach their full potential.
My History
I hold a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Dayton and a Masters degree in Special Education from the University of Toledo. I am licensed to teach as both a General Education Teacher and an Intervention Specialist (PS-3). I am also certified as a Trauma and Resilience Practitioner through Starr Commonwealth.
