Here we go!

Hi! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here! My name is Shannon. I’m a wife, boy mama to the cutest 6 month old and 2 1/2 year old ever, and  an integrated preschool teacher. Not quite sure what that means? That’s ok. Most people aren’t quite sure what I do when tell them that either. 😉

The questions usually go something like this: “You’re a preschool teacher?” Well, yes but I also teach kiddos who need some special education services. “Oh, so you are a preschool special education teacher?” Well, yes but I also teach kiddos who are same age peers. Basically, I do both jobs, everyday in my classroom with both a morning and an afternoon class comprised of 12 students (8 who are receiving extra supports through their IEP and 4 peers). How blessed am I that I get to truly say I teach ALL students?

I created this page for a few reasons. First, I LOVE my job and am very passionate about teaching our littlest learners using hands-on, research based, developmentally appropriate strategies, projects and activities daily. One of the reasons I created this blog was for fellow integrated preschool teachers to share ideas with one another. We are a very small community of teachers who can all benefit when we can reach out and collaborate with each other. I also created it for community preschool teachers as a way that you can receive ideas of activities and resources to use with kiddos in your care. Perhaps you are an elementary teacher and found your way here. Welcome! I hope this page can be a place to see the kinds of environments that some of your students came from, as well as simple ideas you can use with them in the classroom. Maybe you are a parent of a preschooler, I hope you find fun, hands-on activities you can do with your child at home. That’s the goal of this page: to be a community of research-based, developmentally appropriate supports and resources for everyone who works with ALL of our youngest learners.

Please note, confidentiality is of highest importance to me, which means you will NEVER see any pictures or names of my students (former or current), nor will you hear any descriptions about specific students either.

I can’t wait for you to join me on a behind the scenes look at what an integrated preschool classroom looks like! You can find me here, on Instagram: @theintegratedpreschoolteacher, and on Facebook:@theintegratedpreschoolteacher

I can’t wait to share this school year with you! It’s going to be a great one!
